Making the Faire Accessible to Everyone

IMG_4299 cropChildren’s Museum of Pittsburgh thanks the Pittsburgh Pirates, Westinghouse, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh and Urban Innovation 21 for their support in helping all members of our community attend Maker Faire Pittsburgh.

Thanks also to the Pittsburgh Pirates and Westinghouse for underwriting the Museum’s ability to extend its Museums for All policy to Maker Faire Pittsburgh 2015 attendees.

In addition to the accessibility accommodations from the Children’s Museum, we were excited to welcome several makers whose projects focus on making experiences accessible to all, including:

Xogo (formerly Haxbox) makes it easy to use all sorts of interfaces — joysticks, buttons, sip-n-puff, etc – to play the latest game consoles, letting you fully customize how you play favorite video games. It allows people with physical disabilities to play alongside abled friends and socialize on an equal footing.

Find Some Flow creates inclusive play and play spaces round Pittsburgh in its quest to free play and play for the masses, create engaging examples of the power of play and deliver these experiences to the populations that need them most.  It supports wildly engaging health experiences, challenges perspectives and adapts environments to change what is possible through games, play and the principles that underlie them.
